Hollywood tough-guy Mr T is suing an American chain of discount stores, who he claims stole his likeness to make him look like a "fool".
The actor - who played the be-jewelled BA Baracus in 80s TV classic The A-Team - says Best Buy Co Inc illegally copied his appearance as Clubber Lang in 1982 movie Rocky III in advertisements. The lawsuit - heard at Los Angeles Superior Court today (1st May 2003) - accuses Best Buy of altering a fight scene between the former professional wrestler and co-star Sylvester Stallone so it appeared Mr T was boxing with a "middle aged, balding, out-of-shape" Best Buy salesman. The lawsuit says, "At no time did Mr T consent to Best Buy's use of his likeness, photograph and voice to promote Best Buy. "Best Buy's portrayal of Mr T as a fool thus has the likelihood of injuring Mr T's business reputation and of diluting the distinct quality of Mr. T's professional persona." Nobody makes Mr. T look like a fool! |
